Dr. Thilan Fernando graduated Cum Laude from the prestigious Georgetown Medical University in 2005, and completed his residency at the UCLA Medical Center in 2008. Dr. Fernando has volunteered his time by practicing medicine overseas in Sri Lanka and Tanzania, and locally at a homeless clinic in Redondo Beach. One thing Dr. Fernando has learned during his time as a volunteer is how to stay flexible and work in changing conditions. “It's really eye-opening,” says Dr. Fernando, “you learn how to prioritize patient care while working with limited resources, on a wide range of disorders.” Dr. Fernando says he learned how to be adaptable while working overseas, a skill he applies daily when treating the unique needs of each of his patients. Dr. Fernando was raised in Cerritos and attended went to school in Downey. In his free time, Dr. Fernando collects cars and plays sports. He enjoys spending time with his children as well as traveling, surfing, and playing the saxophone.

We spent more time waiting to see Dr than our visit. I wish the Dr assistant can more notes into computer so Dr can come around to talk directly to patient. Dr Fernando is very good.

Everything went really well. He listened to what I had to say, gave me some great recommendations, and did the blood work that I needed, and also an authorization. He was very thorough, very kind, and I was really, really satisfied with the office visit. I really was very, very, extremely satisfied. He was excellent.

Usually this provider will call me out about my weight, at times he has stated that I need to lose weight, which he is correct, and other times he has stated that although I haven't lost any weight I also haven't gained any. This time around I was feeling good about my progress in my weight loss journey, I lost 10lbs and was sure the doctor would comment on that and perhaps get some praise about losing some weight but he didn't even mention it. It brought my mood down, I felt like it wasn't significant enough to mention for him since it was only 10lbs but for me it means a lot, it is really hard to lose weight and I'm making progress and I was hoping he would've given me that acknowledgement

The doctor is very attentive. The nurse is super attentive. They are very kind and easy to work with. What more can I say?

No consideration for patient's time. Scheduled appointments mean nothing. Had to wait over 40 minutes to be seen by provider inside room for less than 60 seconds of their time. Would've been faster going to a cvs minute clinic for what I needed at this appointment. There is no reason I should have to wait 40 minutes to be seen when you ask the patient to be there early and cannot accommodate. I would also like to see the codes that were billed for this visit as I saw the provided less than one minute and the nursing assistant did most of the work.

Could not make an appointment until two weeks out. That's what you could improve on. Dr. Fernando, terrific doctor, great bedside manner and very knowledgeable. And your x-ray machine was broken.

Dr. Fernando listens to what you have to say. This is so important to a patient. I feel very comfortable asking any question which I wouldn't otherwise. And I have recommend him.

The only thing bad is the parking. Not enough handicap spaces. My van got hit in the parking stall because my driver had to park close to the Lind to let my out with my wheel chair. Especially with all the food places around. Better handicap parking!!!

I had a horrible experience the next day when I went to have my bloodwork done. The website said come in any time on a first come basis. I waited 2 hours and was told they don't take people that were not there that same day until 1:00pm. No apologies. I followed the website policy and they had a completely different schedule. My time is as important as anyone else. I felt insignificant as if I did something wrong when in fact, I was following the PIH policy on the website. It is misleading and disrespectful. They encouraged me to go to quest. I pay my bills every month but then I am treated like a second class client. I would like someone to call me back.

I needed an appointment quickly, they gave it to me quickly, they attended to me quickly, they treated me very well. And the medication they gave me is working, so I'm very happy with my doctor. My daughter already has it, this doctor, and so does my sister who's coming from Mexico, and she's going to get it too. Okay? I'm happy again.

I have been searching for a family doctor and I'm glad I found Dr. Fernando! He was one of the most caring doctors that I have ever met. He listened to me. He gave me options and he took the time to explain what each option was about. My search has ended.

I'm disappointed with my experience at this office. After my surgery, I needed assistance completing EDD disability paperwork, but the doctor declined to help and did not offer clear guidance on what to do next. This created unnecessary stress during my recovery and delayed my ability to receive benefits. I understand doctors have policies, but better communication and support would have made a big difference. I hope the office improves how they handle post-operative patient needs.

No one told me exactly where the building was located prior to my first visit. Thankfully I arrived early enough to drive around the Promenade and finally find it. I actually stopped to call but no one ever picked up. AND it says Urgent Care so as I'm walking up, I still wasn't sure I had found it.

I just wanted to give credit to the nurse because she was amazing. She gave me a vaccine and her hand was super smooth. I didn't really feel the pinch. She was amazing. Unfortunately, I didn't get her name or I just forgot her name, but she definitely needs credit because she was really awesome. Dr. Fernando's nurse was really awesome.

I really love Dr Fernando as my PCP, he's always so patient and his soft spoken demeanor makes me feel comfortable and relaxed and he's a great listener. He has never made me feel rushed and has always made sure all my questions were answered. With the type of insurance I have, it doesn't require me to have a PCP but I choose to have Dr Fernando as such

Dr. Fernando was AWESOME! He looked up and confirmed all my medical history since I have been a P.I.H. patient. He explained everything clearly and not once talked over me, he showed sincere concern for my well being; answered all questions in a manner I could understand.
