Sylvia Esparza Gonzalez MD

Dr. Gonzalez is wonderful. She is patient, kind, and shows genuine concern for my child. Her nurse (name removed), however, was a too rough when taking blood. She was not friendly when testing for hearing and sight. She hardly smiled, and pretend not to hear my children's questions to her when she was in the same room with us. She left a bad impression on us and didn't seem to be concerned about the children's well being. My daughter cried when we left the room.

In the exam room we were in, there was no evacuation map displayed in the room and should be in order to be compliant

Hi, my name is (name removed) and my son was seen with Dr. Sylvia and sadly to say her bedside manner was terrible. She referred me to an oncologist before lab results were in, before an x-ray was in and at the end it was not necessary and she called undue stress to me and my family. It was terrible. It's an experience that I would never suggest for anybody to go to. I'm appalled by the whole situation of how this has been transpiring in the last few days. I'm actually very devastated by how everything is going trying to take care of my son and for that referral to come in cold without her even speaking to me about it. She just submitted it to the portal, I guess, the referral to oncology without even speaking to me about it or even waiting for the x-rays or the blood work to return. So it was absolutely, it's been dreadful. I would never recommend her and I would never go back to her. On the other hand, my regular pediatrician, Dr. (name removed), yes, I will go back to her.

The staff is not engaging, don't feel welcomed.

I was very disappointed because she told me to collect my son's stool for Quest diagnostic the incorrect way. She told me to have him poop on a puppy pad and pick it up with a paper towel and put it in a Ziploc bag. I did that when I went to Quest. They said that is absolutely incorrect and should not have been told to do that. It is a biohazard and now I have to recollect his poop sample and he has been ill for three weeks and now I have to wait even longer to get results and see what's going on with him. So I am very dissatisfied with this provider. And she also questioned if he even is having an issue or if it's just that he doesn't want to go to school and trying to avoid school, but he has been suffering for three weeks because

It was an enjoyable experience, except I would have liked if they gave the option to fill out intake paperwork prior to the appointment. It's hard to manage a toddler who doesn't want to be at the doctors office along with having to fill out lengthy paperwork.

Dr. Gonzalez is very attentive and very open to being asked questions and answering questions.

Doctor was very nice and welcoming. She took the time to listen and answer any questions we had.

The office staff was great. The provider did show up 30 minutes late, though, with no heads up from any staff at all of how long it would be. Actually, it was closer to 35-40 minutes late when we came 15 minutes before our appointment time, as we are told to. And appointments get canceled if you're 15 minutes late, but this provider was 40 minutes late with no heads up or any regard. And this is not the first time it has happened. So thank you.

If I choose not to do something, that should be it. There is no reason for a doctor to try and scare a child if I refuse a vaccine.

Nurses were very polite, understanding, and went above and beyond. The doctor didn't have enough time with the patient, didn't hear out the mother's explanations, just asked the patient what happened and that was it. Needs more time, more care for their patients.

All staff members were courteous, friendly and helpful.

After struggling to find a pediatrician for my daughter, I was very pleased to have found Sylvia Gonzalez. I think she was fantastic. She was super kind and patient with my daughter. And we really appreciated her answering all of our questions. And I'm very glad to have gone with her. I wouldn't have gone with anybody else.

No medication was recommended for my daughter. Even with a new cough development. Only a follow up if symptoms continued for a week.

Front office staff was rude and not patient. The doctor was pushy on vaccines and she ended my son's appointment by saying goodbye. Thank you to him. I had stepped out of the room to take a call when I came back. She was gone, nowhere for me to find her, to ask questions or leave comments. So she left without saying goodbye to the parents.

Dr. Gonzalez was very kind and attentive to my concerns. She answered all of my daughter's questions as well and made her feel very comfortable.

Dr Gonzalez did a great job at taking time to speak to my daughter about her health and educate her in ways that she could take care of herself, like explaining self breast exams, checked in on mental health and getting rest. However, I am uncomfortable with the approach of focusing on weight. My daughter is at a healthy weight, yet the doctor had to spend time to point out where she falls on a weight chart and warned her not to gain any weight. When you look at my daughter, she is fine, not over or underweight. This is triggering for me, because I was the same size as my daughter at her age, my doctor said the same to me, and it started an eating disorder and a very unhealthy relationship with food. I respect the need to discuss healthy eating and emphasizing the importance of nutrition. But rigid rules such as excerisizing 1 hour a day in addition to PE and not eating certain foods more than once a week is not always helpful. Especially when a child is already struggling with anxiety. This is the age when eating disorders start, and I hope that all of your doctors can approach this subject with some sensitivity.

She tried to guilt trip me into getting my daughter (6) a flu shot after I politely declined. She "gave me facts" about why to get the shot after I declined but they were morbid and distasteful to discuss in front of a 6 year old who is already nervous about going to the doctor as it is. The conversation should have stopped right when I said no.

In my personal experience, I love this Whittier location much more than Downey. I feel that the Whittier location's staff is much more professional and attentive. Because it's less crowded, they truly pay attention to my child and remember my child and I love that. Dr. Sylvia Gonzalez is very kind, playful and professional with both my children and myself. I love it here!

The staff were all very patient with my child, who has a fear of the doctor and shots. They were professional, kind, and connected very well with my child to make her visit as comfortable as possible.

We had such a wonderful experience with Dr. Sylvia! She was incredibly patient, kind, and gentle with my daughter. My little one even brought her baby doll to the visit, and Dr. Sylvia took the time to "check up" on the doll first to show what she was going to do, such a thoughtful gesture that made my daughter feel so comfortable and at ease. She truly listened to all my concerns, answered every question thoroughly, and made us both feel cared for. I'm so grateful for the positive experience!

Very disappointed with the doctor. In the beginning of this year the doctor had incorrectly given a referral to my eldest child that was meant for my youngest child. I called the office and was told the issue was resolved and the referral was switched to the correct child. On top of giving the wrong referral it was the incorrect place that could not help my child's needs. Fast forward to a recent appointment for my eldest child the doctor proceeded to ask how did the referral go? Confused at the situation thinking this was resolved. The doctor never removed the incorrect referral when everything unfolded. The referral was never removed from my child's profile, she proceeded to brush it off and move on from the mistake and did not take responsibility at the recent appointment. I also felt uncomfortable when I said no to a flu vaccine. I expressed me wanting to do more research on it, especially having a child with special needs and given the experience I've had with my child's immunization chart being overly vaccinated. Another issue, that we are all trying to get to the bottom of.

During the appointment, I felt that my concerns about my 11-year-old daughter were not fully heard or addressed. It seemed that our specific needs and questions were overlooked, this experience was disappointing. Will not be coming back with this provider. I will schedule another appointment with my child's regular pediatrician at La Mirada pediatric office.

The doctor was amazing. She was personable, caring, and considerate.

My daughter is non-verbal (Autistic), and she is very challenging as a patient. I really appreciate that the group (nurses and doctors) does everything they can with her and are very accommodating to her due to her anxiety and her non-cooperation.

This was my daughter's first appointment with Dr. Gonzalez, and I can say it went pretty well. She listened to my daughter's concerns while giving her tips and advice. She made my daughter comfortable.
