Rex Winters MD, is an interventional cardiologist who always had an interest in physiology. He felt that medicine—specifically cardiology—would allow him to combine his interest and knowledge to advance cutting-edge technology and high-quality care. During his training he completed an internal medicine residency, a cardiology fellowship and an interventional cardiology fellowship.
Interventional cardiology was undergoing a technological revolution during the time Dr. Winters was in medical school. As he entered the field, he knew he would be able to grow his skill sets for many years to come. Even now, interventional cardiology specialty is still advancing.
“Cardiovascular care remains highly dependent on evaluating patients in person,” he describes. “It’s that doctor-patient encounter during consultation and routine visits that I enjoy the most.” He says that the diversity of patients and cardiovascular challenges that he sees on a daily basis keeps him motivated.
His experience and skills within interventional cardiology as well as leadership and compassion for his patients are what differentiates him from others in his field. His mother was a teacher and his father a welder. He says it is the experience of his childhood that allows him to remain humble and caring in his medical practice.
Dr. Winters has been recognized annually for the past 20 years, and most recently in 2021, by Super Doctors in the area of cardiology. His main leisure pursuit is golf, but as a father of five daughters and a grandfather of four granddaughters, he says his interests are directed by his girls.
