Erika Abueg DO is a family medicine practitioner with subspecialties in women's health and geriatrics. After earning her medical degree, she completed her residency at PIH Health Whittier Hospital, where she completed an academic track in the treatment of tropical diseases that consisted of extra training in Sierra Leone. At the conclusion of her residency, Dr. Abueg received the 'Above and Beyond the Call of Duty' award from the PIH Health Family Medicine Residency Staff.

Born to parents who both worked in healthcare, Dr. Abueg felt a natural draw toward a career in medicine. She says she also wanted to educate others on the value and importance of health and wellness.

"I chose family medicine as a specialty so I would have the opportunity to build lasting relationships with my patients," she explains. "I also want to be able to care for multiple generations within a family."

One of Dr. Abueg’s strength is her ability to build trust and rapport with patients. Family medicine allows her to see a variety of patients and concerns throughout the day, making every day interesting and fulfilling. She loves solving acute problems and managing chronic diseases to help her patients get better. She also likes to see patients gain more confidence in taking care of their own health.

In her free time, Dr. Abueg enjoys hiking with her dogs, exercising and playing board games with friends.

i was not allowed to speak directly to my pcp when I called. All I needed was a referral for a broken bone and was forced to wait 2 days to see my pcp.

Dr. Abueg is one of the best doctors, or how to say healthcare providers that I have seen at PIH. One thing that I think the team does have to address is bringing in providers that hear the patient's concerns and are getting their health care concerns addressed, and as well as finding more available appointment times at a sooner time and getting the health concerns addressed. Hello, you guys can mostly improve by getting your patients sooner appointment times because I had to wait two and a half months to get this appointment, which if, you know, if I were very ill would be a very big issue. So yeah, that's all I have to say.

When explaining my experiences using different medications and requesting one medication that worked for me in the past, this medical doctor laughed at me. Her arrogance as a medical professional was unacceptable. After I told her that I didn't think this was funny and ask her to take me seriously she recomposed herself and began speaking to me in a slightly more professional manner.

I would like my friends and family to go to this doctor, the difference is that my family only speaks Spanish and the doctor doesn't speak English, and that's why they wouldn't want to go because they wouldn't understand. They prefer doctors who speak both languages.

The health concerns of the patient should be listened to and not prolonged, especially when they need an urgent referral as opposed to waiting because they feel it is unnecessary based on healthy vitals. I think really listening to the patient provides trust and acknowledgement with their doctor.

Dr. Abueg was great! She didn't rush me and I was able to discuss two issues I've been having without being interrupted. There's another doctor (name removed) who refuses to listen to more than one issue at a time because she's too busy. Dr. Abueg did not do that and I finally felt heard.

The clinic staff were very professional, courteous, and efficient. The Lab took over 20 minutes to get my 91 year old mother in. I talked with the desk personnel as to how much longer the wait was going to be, and at that time, the lab came right out and called my mother. The lab tech, phlebotomist could not get a stick to draw mother's blood. He told me to go to Quest. He could only try to get blood 3 times. this lab work was very important. It was ordered by physician. Took mother back to snf and asked if they could finish lab request. Whittier Hills Healthcare was able to get a vein phlebotomist to draw blood immediately. Whittier Hills Phlebotomist got the blood drawn right away. I would like to inform Dr. Abueg the PIH Lab phlebotomist was unable to draw mom's blood that Dr. Abueg needed. Mom's labs were out of wack. It was very important to get these labs done. Dr.Abueg may need to change mom's meds. Mom is 91. She shouldn't have to wait 20, 25 minutes to get blood drawn when it is important to get them done immediately as requested by the physician. This phlebtomist told me to take mom to quest lab! They need an appointment. Mom could not wait. Dr. Abueg needed these labs done now. However, Dr. Abueg did not get mom's lab blood work. Hopefully, the snf will have to change mom's meds if she needs it done.

Since I've been on disability whenever I need my paperwork done, it's never done in a timely manner. It's always forgotten by the office staff or the doctor. It was not the doctor that I've seen in this last visit, but it was Dr. (name removed) before that. It always feels like he's trying to pawn me off onto somebody else, another doctor or another office. And so my disability sometimes has a lapse in payment, and so I have to wait extra time to get that money back. And that seems to cause a lot of financial struggle in my life.

When I called in and I couldn't get my primary doctor, they offered me another doctor, which was good so I could get in as soon as possible because my primary doctor is always, you know, very, very busy and I have a hard time making appointments with her. So I'm happy that they did offer me another doctor this way I could get my issue done because I wasn't feeling very well. Other than that, it's, you know, we always get good service except for my primary doctor, like I said, is just overloaded with her patients that sometimes it's very hard to get in, even though I like her very much. And that's the only issue I have with that. Other than that, I'm satisfied. Thank you.

I think Dr. Abueg is a very respectable doctor, listens, attentive, down to earth, family-oriented, and I really love her. I've been going to her for a couple of years. I think its RIDICULOUS to have a PRIMARY and not be able to see her when you need her and have to go to URGENT care. Also being admitted to the hospital and she doesn't see you.

Seemed that the nurse that took my vitals was having a bad day? When I didn't hear her clearly and asked what was said, she responded with a bit of attitude. I guess repeating herself was troublesome. Mind you, she was asking me something while she took off the arm band, I couldn't hear anything other than velcro being pulled.

Hi, so my name is (PHI removed). I saw Dr. Erica Abueg regarding some swelling I was having in my ankles and I was hoping that she was going to order some lab work, you know, just to check, make sure everything was looking okay, but she had seen that I had lab work done in June and she said that my liver panel and kidney lab looked fine in June, so there really wasn't a point in doing lab work. But the thing is, I'm going in to see her this day for swelling in the ankles that had been just occurring in the last few weeks and you know just knowing that this could be signs of congestive heart failure or kidney disease, liver disease, I was concerned and I didn't want to like step on her toes or say hey well don't you think I need some lab work done since those that you're seeing in the
